Over the past year I’vediscovered if you keep on giving and giving, you end up losing yourself. I think that learning to give and receive is the trick. Perfect happiness is also a feeling, and the most amazing thing is that we were all born with the gift to make it happen in a heartbeat. Putting on certainmusic, reading something can make us feel a certain way. I think the key to happiness is allowing ourselves to not feel bad or guilty for feeling it, and letting it be contagious. And to not be dependent on other people to create your own happiness.

When you’re reading Chekov, you’re in this world that he’s created. I never would have created that world. I don’t know anything about that time period or that setting or those groups of people or what those experiences were, but oh my gosh, it’s amazing to daydream on it and put yourself there.

I began writing books after speaking for several years and I realize that when you have a written book people think that you’re smarter than you really are if I can joke. But it’s interesting. People will buy your book and hire you without reading the book just because you have a book and you have a book on a subject that they think is of interest to themselves or e to their company.

Ben remembered reading about curators in “Wonderstruck”, and thought about what id meant to curate your own life, as his dad had done here. What would it be like to pick and choose the objects and stories that would go in your own cabinet? How would Ben curate his own life? If an artwork never gets any attention from anybody, then obviously it’s got problems. If it gains attention from a very small elite, then it’s presumably doing something. Finnegans Wake gets a lot of attention from certain people who become passionate about it, who are usually very good readers in general. Although – I often talk about costs and benefits – it seems to me the costs of reading Finnegans Wake are not worth the benefits, however many there may be. And it’s the same with the more arcane among poets, Zukofsky and so on.

Whoever writes a bad review, I put their name on a list, and they’re going to get taken care of one day down the road. Otherwise, I don’t let it bother me. The truth is, these are review-proof movies. The audiences are going to see it. My audience, our audience, isn’t reading Esquire magazine to see if my movie is good or not. They just want to laugh, to be entertained, and lose themselves.
