One thing I try to do with my work is to show that people who have extreme fetishes or who exist outside the constraints of “normal” society still have romantic impulses and are capable of love and tenderness. Sometimes people cannot or don’t want to acknowledge that pornographers are people too!

I like rules. I like definitions, categories, and writing advice of all sorts. When I’m writing fiction, there are often a lot of things for me to try to get right at once, and rules help me to stay organized. But my favorite rule of all is that, ultimately, there are no rules.

We look at the human body as a biochemical machine controlled by genes and therefore we see a mechanical aspect to life and then try to understand the nature of mechanics by looking at how the physical parts interact with each other. If you want to understand life you just look at it as a whole series of interactive chemical reactions. What we are leaving out is the invisible elements, the contributions of the invisible world, which are emphasized in the nature of quantum mechanics. Matter is energy and is a primary factor that must be considered because everything is ultimately energy.

We improv-ed scenes that didn’t happen in the movie. We improv-ed the scenes that are written in the movie without the dialogue as written. We played around a lot to try and figure out just how we could flow with what was already written in the story and how we could highlight those imbalances and those points at which we came to loggerheads.

I’ve been accused of being a little pedantic here and there, but I don’t buy that criticism. I’m telling it like I see it. You don’t have to buy it. You don’t have to like it. You don’t have to listen to it at all. I’m not trying to convince people of things, other than the fact that I’m trying to make as vivid as I can my own feelings and experiences.

When we were trying to get the money together for the film, one reason that was consistently given for not investing in it was that everyone kept saying no one could direct it well enough to entertain an audience for 100 minutes essentially watching three people chatting in the kitchen.

I say to myself, go on seeking, be glad for being sensitive, be glad you’re able to go beyond the resistance inside you. It is our resistance to what we experience that makes creativity possible. So don’t get rid of resistance like that by going around it or trying to eliminate it. Our own limitations put up strong resistance, but it’s because of that that we are creators
